Google is shutdown its Orkut social network on September 30

Orkut grew out of Google’s 20 percent initiative , which allowed employees to use a fifth of their working week on side projects. Of course, the social network has since been sup planted by Google+, a more ambitious service that ties into many of Google’s other products. The decision to close Orkut is therefore hardly surprising – the fact it took so long is probably more of a shock. Starting today, it will be impossible for newcomers to create a new Orkut account. Existing users can access the service as normal, however; Google says the three-month period should “give the community time to manage the transition.” Orkut enthusiasts can also export their profile data , community posts and photos using Google Takeout. Orkut has been around for a decade and to mark its legacy, Google will preserve all of the site’s public communities in an archive. It’s a nice gesture, although users can choose to opt-out by decoupling Orkut from their Google account. “It’s been a great 10 years, and w...

Windows' Next Version Is Called Windows 10

Whether you're going to  miss the Charms bar  or not, users likely have a list of things they love (or loath) about Windows 8. We've already had a  few hints  at what  to expect  in the next version -- the classic start menu for example. Now, we have some videos (below) purportedly showing the Windows 10 in action (or, a fairly complete build of it, at least). Some of the more interesting features shown include a revised, (unified) Notification Center, a demonstration of how Multi-Desktop will work, and of course, that beloved start menu. Naturally, all usual caveats apply (things could change, and probably will), but, as Windows 9 creeps further out of the shadows, we're getting a clearer picture of what sort of user experience we can expect. Russian Hackers Publish 5 Million Username and Passwords of Gmail Accounts

On Tuesday, approximately 5 million Google accounts and their passwords were leaked on the Russian Bitcoin Security forum  btcsec.com . A forum user named tvskit created a  topic  that included the leaked accounts and said that approximately 60% of the accounts were still valid. At this time, Google has not verified whether the leak is valid and there have been reports that this information is just a compilation of older leaks that go back a few years. A password redacted version of the leaked file was then  posted  in the /netsec/ subreddit, which can be used to determine if your account was in the leak. Numerous people in /netsec/ have confirmed that their accounts and the corresponding passwords were listed in the leak. It is strongly suggested that you change your Google account password to be safe. If you use the same email and password at other sites, you should change it there as well. Here is the list of Email id which are HACKED

Mega Hack Discovered

A huge attack on US systems was discovered by security outfits, which has supposedly stolen 1.2 billion user name and password combinations plus over 500 million email addresses. The intrusion was discovered by a company called Hold Security and was alleged to include confidential content collected from 420,000 websites, including household names and small sites. The security outfit has a record of uncovering huge hacks – for instance, it was the one to discover the 2013 theft of tens of millions of records from Adobe Systems. This means that Hold Security could have been seen as a reliable source. The company claimed that the hacking attack was discovered after over 7 months of research and was being carried out by some unnamed Russian cyber gang. Apparently, the latter now owns the largest cache of stolen information. Now, what many of the comments about the breach online center on is the fact that the security outfit is offering a $120 per month breach notification service allo...

76,000 Mozilla Developers’ Email Addresses Compromised

A few days ago, members of Mozilla’s developer community were notified of the accidental leak of email addresses and encrypted passwords. This was a result of the failure of a “data ”sanitization process carried out by the company. Mozilla is known worldwide for its Firefox Internet browser. The company coordinates the development of some open-source software projects via its Mozilla Developer Network. From 23 June and for about 30 days, the company admits, data sanitization process had been failing. This caused the accidental disclosure of MDN email addresses of almost 76,000 users plus encrypted passwords of 4,000 users on a publicly accessible server. However, Mozilla said those passwords had been stored as salted hashes – an encryption process which rendered it computationally impossible to retrieve the original password in a readable format. The company also says that, by themselves, the passwords now can’t be used to authenticate with the MDN website. Still, Mozilla added...

Facebook Introduced “Buy” Button

The social network has placed a “buy” button on adverts for products that would allow its users to pay for them directly from the ads without leaving Facebook. The “buy” button will be visible from ads on both desktop and mobile app versions of the social network. It will also be seen on product page posts from brands. By clicking on it, the user will be connected directly with the retailer. Facebook announced that this feature was built with privacy in mind. The company pointed out that it was trying to make the payment experience both safe and secure. As such, none of the credit or debit card information users would be sharing with Facebook when completing a transaction can be shared with other advertisers. In addition, it will be up to users whether or not they’d like to save payment information for future purchases. The feature is testing now, limited to a few small- and medium-sized businesses in the United States. In the meantime, it is expected to help both ad...

Cyber Police Pursue Shylock Malware

International law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the German Federal Police and Europol, are leading a global campaign with the aim to knock out the Shylock malware. The latter infected at least 30,000 computers running Windows across the globe and siphon off money from victims’ online banking accounts. The agencies located and seized command and control servers for Shylock. The malware was dubbed “Shylock”, because quotes from Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice were found in its code. The website domains used to control the malicious software were also shut down, and the global cyber police met a few days ago in the operational centre at the European Cybercrime Centre at Europol in The Hague. Their representatives say they continue to urge everyone to make sure their OS and anti-virus software are updated and relevant.                          ...

Apple Has Backdoors in iOS?

The online debates continue to grow, and Apple might have to explain to its customers why iOS features installed backdoors. According to the security researcher Jonathan Zdziarski, Apple might have deliberately installed security holes in its devices running iOS.  Jonathan Zdziarski, when at the HOPE security conference, demonstrated some “undocumented high-value forensic services’ that can be found running on every iOS device, along with some suspicious design omissions in the operating system that made collection easier. Finally, Zdziarski also pointed at the examples of forensic artefacts acquired which “should never come off the device” without user consent. The security researcher believes that the tech giant did that all the while it shored up the security in the rest of the iOS in order to make it harder to break in. The interesting thing is that the iPhone proves to be reasonably secure to a typical hacker, with the iPhone 5 and iOS 7 being more secure from...
